I just heard that Bill passed away a couple of weeks ago. For those who did not know him, he was a great guy and a giant in Canadian numismatics. He was the longtime owner of Charlton International and editor of the Charlton catalogue. He was instrumental in the formation of ICCS and CAND.
More importantly to me, he was an informal mentor. When I first started writing, there were times I wondered if I was doing anything worthwhile. Bill convinced me that I was, and he helped me get going by plugging my books and by selling them on the Charlton website for a while.
I also worked closely with him on the 2011 large cent variety section of the Charlton catalogue. He was great to work with on that project.
Thanks for the info, Rob. I always enjoyed talking to him at shows and informal meets. He was a great guy and he put our names in print with the 65th Charlton. And Charlton hasn't been the same since he left.
I very nice resume and it brought back many memories of sitting down with he and his wife when they had finished their breakfasts before and/or during a large coin show(S). Once they moved to Florida, numismatics started a gentle slide backwards here in the T.O. area.
