Two of the coins I bid on went for moon money. I dropped out of both lots early. Multiple other bidders drove the prices way higher. Congrats to the consignors.
Lot 26065, a 1911 cent in a PCGS 66 Red holder went for $4,880 USD. If a Canadian buyer, about $7,600 CAD including GST. Trends is about $1,200 CAD, and there are lots of very nice Landon examples about.
Lot 25073, a 1913-C sovereign in PCGS 64 went for $9,766 USD. If a Canadian buyer, about $15,150 CAD including GST. Trends is $9,000 CAD.
I did buy a couple of the variety cents. They went higher than I expected also.

Craziness all around. Someone paid almost $1,000 for a 1953 PL-66 50c at the recent TCNC auction, and a 1953 set in a plastic holder went the other day on ebay for $3,600.

My bids got clobbered. The 1881-H DDO MS63BN cent went for $2806 US. The 1882-H DDO VF35 cent went for $823. And the 1888 Bead Punch 8 cent in 62BN went for $915. I was lucky enough to get the 1912 MS65 silver 5c.

Just a few months ago the market seemed a little bit slow with some excellent bargains (numismatic in general, both cad and foreign coins) but since march the prices are getting quite strong with almost identical items selling for substancially more than what they used to.
Its always nice to see strong prices like that but as an active buyer, It might be hard to find top pieces at attractive prices for a while...

Gene, sorry that I was bidding against you. I bought the 82 DDO for my slider set.

Funny thread to open up.. I was the consignor of the 1911..and the winner of that 53 set on ebay haha.. Needless the say I was pretty happy when the hammer fell on that cent..Hopefully the new owner can pull a 66+RD out of it..I think that was probably the plan when bidding, and honestly it is stunning in hand.
Feel free to call me Will.

Wow. Heritage just sold an 1858 specimen cent in PCGS 65 brown for $11,590 USD! I expected it to go for $2 - $3K.

Wow is right. Great news for those who have collected with patience and pursued quality over the years. I recently auctioned a few quality items I had held for close to two decades and was very happy with the prices realized. Quality Canadian material is starting to have its day IMO.

That was insane. Granted it was a gorgeous coin, but that's a 4x-5x over expectation based on priors. There was a clean 1858 specimen set floating around the internet a decade ago for $10k that had a hard time moving. Man, wish I had bought it #129326;& That sale shifts the paradigm for the 1858 specimens and possibly the 58s in general. There's a clean 58 LC in 62 on ebay right now for 900- someone probably should grab that in light of this.
