Had a bad experience with this company. I bought several coins, one example is this riksdaler.
The description stated XF, but the delivered coin shows signs of harsh cleaning.
When asking for a refund, they simply stated that they take no responsibility for their descriptions or detail grades. In other words, they use deceptive descriptions.
I realise many of you don't buy coins from Europe, but if you do, only buy graded examples or see the coins in hand before purchasing.
I had greater expectations regarding Heritage Auctions.

Sure looks harshly cleaned in your detail photo.

Was the coin raw, or certified by a TPG?

I believe in the US that Heritage sells only certified examples and goes by whatever grade the TPG assigns.

it was raw, but everyone can see inhand that the coin is cleaned

must check if this applies, it applies here in Sweden. I have no problem taking 20-30 dollars in return fees just to make their day a bit more problematic

"The EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) grants consumers a 14-day "cooling-off" period to return or cancel orders bought online, by phone, or by mail. Customers can return items for any or no reason without penalty, and sellers must issue a full refund, including original shipping costs, within 14 days of cancellation."

Today the term "caveat emptor" holds to be true now more than ever.

I've had good experience with HA but only got a few coins from them. Those auction photos do not look natural, not like coin in hand, they don't show the coin surfaces at all or the color of silver. I don't know if HA takes their own photos or uses consignment seller photos. In the future perhaps don't bid on a coin unless there are better photos. I thought HA had a policy you could start return within three days of recieving a coin.

You could at least file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They may not help but at least your complaint would be public on BBB site.

The coins I got from HA had much better photos.

When I buy coins on ebay I want good photos or seller offers returns and usually buy from sellers/dealers I already know, trust.

I thought so too. But I doubt they can wrestle their way out of EU directives about consumer rights. We will see — I'll update this thread.
I also had higher expectations of Heritage, just as I have of Stacks. I expect their descriptions to cover basic issues such as a hole drilled through a coin, countermarkings, etc.

The money itself isn't the issue! it's the fact that we turn to big auction houses for some kind of reassurance. That they won't try to fool us or sell fakes etc. OR that when misstakes are made they will correct them. We trust their knowledge and judgement

For now I just have to "Stick to Stacks" they should pay me for this slogan

I have had good luck with Heritage but only bid on TPG graded coins.

Their pictures of graded coins are excellent.

Mostly yes - but they do offer ungraded coins in certain categories.

Moniker, that sucks. I wish you the best in this issue, and hope that you'll be reporting a more favorable outcome soon.
