Hondo and Dearborn continue to "Wow". I love the SHOWA era coins myself and have a bunch on my wall commemorating the victims of WW2. But the SHOWA era represented far more then WW2. It also included thee post war economic miracle and triumph of Democracy under American stewardship encompassing Hirohito's reign from 1926 to 1989.

It was the longest reign of any Japanese Emperor and while the post war constitution eliminated the Demi-God status of the Emperor I don't think it eliminated it in the eyes of the individual Japanese and only death and generational transformation did that. And even so I don't believe the the role of Emperor has been reduced by much in Japanese society, tho yes it has been de-politicalized.

So that is what I see in these coins. Of particular note are the silver 100 yen coins and the rectangular Shu and Bu gold and silver coins, both of which are starting to get hard to find. I have interest in the Taisho era and early SHOWA as they represent Japans emergence as a global power and Asian Fascist/Militarized state in constant upheaval. https://www.apmex.com/category/5638...ins-currency
