What's making headlines this week: After passing the Senate last month, the Common Cents Act passed the House earlier this week. The legislation formally eliminates the cent and allows the testing of new materials for the nickel. The Central Bank of Samoa (CBS) has issued 20,000 commemorative 100 Tala bank notes marking Queen Elizabeth II's 100 birth year and remembering her visit to Samoa in 1977. A 1914 Proof Lincoln Cent sold for a record-breaking $195,200 in a Heritage Auctions sale, surpassing its previous record of $126,500. The Monnaie de Paris is selling €9.50 firefighter solidarity mini-medals. The mint will donate €7 from each medal sold to the families and orphans of fallen firefighters. I assume this will be signed into law soon. They stopped business strike cents after 2025 but I guess this makes it official. It would be cool if this injects some interest in the "boring old nickel." No disrespect, the design is cool but it's been going on in some variety since the late 1930s! It feels like a new composition Buffalo nickel would be the obvious choice. A completely new design could also be interesting but it could also turn out not so great. I'll definitely be interested in finding out where this goes.. Report this Post to the Staff

Some jurisdictions have laws against rounding. Federal law would supersede them.
