When Is A Variety Worth Noting On Colonial?

Hello!

I recently picked a nice Massachusetts 1788 1C in VG8. While examining the coin, I figured I would determine which Ryder variety it was. Based on diagnostics, it would appears to be 16-M which is a R-5.

Would it be worth noting this variety on the slab? I am not entirely sure if would be worth the money.

I looked at auction comps for the variety and it appears based on thin records to command a premium (about 25%?).

That's a tough one. Most casual collectors would just want a type coin and don't really care about variety attribution. A collector of the series would care about the variety, but most colonial collectors prefer raw coins, and would be able to ID the variety on their own.
