1887 "s" Half Gold Sovereign

I'm interested to know how much it might be worth. I live in NZ, but after researching on the internet, believe this coin came from Australia because of the S mintmark. See below scans. Dollar amounts are in Australian dollars. Are you sure it is a 1/2 sovereign, and not a sovereign. Weight for a 1/2 sov. is 3.9940 grams. and the size is 19mm. Report this Post to the Staff

Eric Valued Member Australia 222 Posts	Posted 08/13/2006 6:05 pm Yes, I'd agree with gnome. It's in the F-VF range valued between $150 - $225. Prices in the McD are currently out of date and you will NEVER find this coin for $100 any more, because there is around that much in it in melt alone. The obverse looks a little curious to me. What do you think can account for that yellow colouring in the top right quadrant of the obverse, as though someone might have tried to clean it? The obverse looks a little scratchy to me, as well.
