Need Help With 1879 Two Cent Swiss Coin

And do you know when they discontinued making the 2 cent coin in switzerland? Thanks you for your help! I am new to the forum and just finding my way around! Sap Moderator Australia 16804 Posts	Posted 02/05/2011 12:49 am The name given to the fractional coinage of Switzerland depends on which of the four Swiss languages you're speaking; French-Swiss call them "centimes", German-Swiss "rappen", Italian-Swiss "centesimi" and Romansch-Swiss "rap". The coin catalogues tend to use "rappen", but Wikipedia uses centimes. Quote: And do you know when they discontinued making the 2 cent coin in switzerland? chrisild Pillar of the Community Germany 1238 Posts	Posted 02/05/2011 05:55 am ... and the 2 ct/rp coins from that last series (1948-74) cannot be redeemed any more either. The 1 ct/rp pieces were taken out of circulation a few years ago, by the way, but can still redeemed for another 15 years. The smallest denomination in Switzerland today is the 5 ct/rp. As for what name you pick, well, the Swiss simply decided to be language-neutral on their coins. :) Thus no unit name on the lower denominations (0.05, 0.10, 0.20), and just "Fr" on the higher ones (1/2 Fr and above).
