OK I My wife and 3 kids went to Washington state to do Christmas with my family and my wifer family. We are staying with my mom, But my mom gave me a early christmas gift. She got me a box of nickels form the bank. the box has 50 rolls. But the one catch is which was my idea is that I don't get to keep all of the coin but I can keep the ones I need for my Nickel set or can keep any old ones or errors or other good ones I like. It has been fun seaching so far. But the best suprise so far is I found a 1892 Liberty head Nickel in one of the rolls. Also had a Silver War Nickel. Plus 4 other I nneded for my set. my set is to the point where all of them I need ar from 1958 and back so very slim picking but the 1892 was a complete suprise. SO for those who ask if oyu cna find anything good in rolls I would say the answer is yes it is not in very good shape. When I get a chance I will post a picture it will not be tell after Christmas since I am with family and probaly will not be able to get a piture of it. I will also update if I find anything else good.

I'm happy for you that you found the old nickel, as well as others you need for your collection. My wife and I were able to complete two collections of Jefferson nickels recently. About the only one we didn't find in circulation was the 1950 D. Of course it took a lot of searching!!

Hi Danny Sounds like a good time !! the V nickel is a very good find these days in a roll of coins. By the way what grade are you doing your collection in ? I have quite a few that I have taken from circulation that would fit well in a VF or lower set. Drop me an email with your need list when you get a chance. Rick

I would like some input from some of you on bank responses. MY bank (here in New Mexico) has made it clear they do not wish to let out rolls to the general public It is not as if I am a poor account with them. -Have any of you encountered such problems,.What say you? Thnks Dewey

I have never heard of such a thing. Did they tell you why they will not let out rolls to the general public? If you have other banks close by, you may want to try them too...

I know it is not the best looking coin but here it is. This is the one I found in the box of nickels that I searched.

Dewey, Here in western Colorado I have picked up many rolls from both banks and my credit union, and they never hesitate to give them to me in a cheerful manner.

Great find and for only 5 cent investment. Dewey, I live in Minnesota and have no problem getting rolls, and one bank even gave me a zippered bank bag to put them in.

how did someone throw that away and put it in a roll of coins, its so different looking from the nickels now that even if I didnt collect I would either keep it cause it was different looking or not know to put it with the nickels to begin with. your so lucky to find something like that, I work at a bank and I'm always buying rolls of nickels, the best I have found are 3 1939 d's

There are plenty of people who do not ever look at coins. They just go by size and color, I think. I'm always asking my co-workers to check their change for nickels, and many times I've had people be startled by the obverse of the 2005 or 2006 nickels and say, "Wow, this is different!" And the thing has been in their pocket. Most people just don't pay any attention. Dewey, I have no trouble at all getting rolls of coins from banks. As someone suggested -- find a new bank. You might also try a credit union now and then. They don't get rolls of coins from the Fed, they usually only have rolls that their customers have turned in. That means somebody rolled up the change in a coffee can -- you can find some good stuff in there sometimes. Good luck. Jan
