It appears to be a novelty round. I would think its value is based on spot...that is assuming it is solid 24K gold, not some other lesser alloy

I would base its value on two grams of 10K as anything less isn't legally gold in the USA

I think this is a description of it: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BICENTENNIAL Medal 1776-1976... Obverse : Flying Eagle... Reverse : THE BICENTENNIAL COUNCIL OF THE THIRTEEN ORIGINAL STATES in Circle Around Wreath... Approximately the Size of a Penny... 2.9 Grams of 50% Pure Gold... Privately Minted by Franklin Mint
If that is it melt would be about $75.00

I just spent 10 minutes scouring the internet and I couldn't find this medal anywhere. I have never seen one like it, just similar ones. 1976 puts it right after we were allowed to own gold again I think. I doubt this coin is "solid gold" as in at least .99, but it may be more than a 10k alloy. The seller says it weighs 2 grams.....off the top of my head that would be about $125 if it was "solid gold". It's a mystery to me, but right now the bid is at $36....so you'd be in the money in any case other than "gold-plated"

Yes you were :D
According to a gold gram calculator, it is worth around 45 dollars I believe. But thats just because of the gold content. Idk about collector value.

To me I would think anything made outside the mint during the bicentenial year was made in large numbers and being only 10K is a novelty at best. But who knows...I am new to all this

As am I, and I have never purchased any gold. However, I am a fan of the Bicentennial coins.
Was hoping someone who has been at this for a long long time could offer me some wisdom concerning this medal before I make a bid lol.

I think as long as you don't get too deep into it based on melt value, it would be a nice addition to a bicentenial themed set.

I dont see it going for more than 50 dollars since shipping is free. Unless someone is craving this coin and decides it is worth much more than melt. If so, its all theirs lol. I am ALWAYS on ebay and this is the first one I have ever seen.

I suggest that you received plenty of wisdom and as well some free research ... what else do you need? Bid as you see fit ... appears to me that the CCF experts nailed this one for you regarding provenance and gold content ... David
