Found the last coin that I need for my collection. Couple of catalogs seem to suggest that I should be able to do it at a certain price but the reality is, it is a lot tougher than I expected. Coins are bent, damaged etc but even so, trying to upgrade them is difficult.

Here are the photos:

1892

1893 - severely damaged but it is 1893 1 fun

1895 - 2 char variety

3 char variety - scarer variety

1896 - unfortunately bent

The 1896 1 fun coin is supposed to be a key date coin but I find the 1893 1 fun coin to be suprisingly difficult as well. Most common being 1892 and 1895 2 character variety. Took me two good years to hunt them down which is a bit surprising as the catalog value for them seems to be rather undervalued.

A very nice collection and difficult to assemble, is taunting that any survived, those are traditional Chinese Kanji characters, was there Chinese officials occupation there at specific time?

Congrats on completion! Always nice to complete something (at least if you have other projects to turn to). And I really appreciate a collector who can introduce a handsome amount of fun into the collection. I haven't managed as much myself, but at least I have one, and a little fun is better than none.

macmercury, Korea and Japan both use Chinese characters as part of their language. If I am not wrong, Korea has simplified its language and uses hangul. The Chinese characters are referred to as hanja. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanja

This era of Korean coinage was struck with strong Japanese influence coins hence you can see strong resemblence with the Japanese Meiji era dragon coins as well as the last coinage of the Joseon dynasty era.

Thanks gxseries.
I just learned another valuable lesson.
There's too many fakes out there that I have shy away from collecting it, knowledge is key.
