On the weekend I mentioned to my friend that I was just starting to get into coin collecting. He has a bunch of cool old stuff all throughout his house, and he gave me a jar of coins ha had lying around to look through for anything I liked. I look through all the coins, many of them were from different countries. I was excited to find quite a number of old Australian (pre-decimal), British & New Zealand coins.
I also found two very interesting coins which looked like at some point had been used as a necklace.

I managed to identify one of them as a 1775 British Guinea.
The other one I haven't been able to identify. It is a bit worn and hard to make out the data. One side contains a man on horse back, the other side contains some old queen. The Queen looks like the old head of Queen Victoria and the inscription looks like it says the words 'British' on the same face.

I am very curious to know what the coin is. can someone please help me identify it.

I will try to upload an image

Old coins with holes in them are most likely gaming tokens.
But maybe someone else knows more about this type of stuff.

if I recall correctly, this was a souvenir sold about 1900, to raise money for volunteers going to the Boer War.
There were several varieties.

Correct. It's not a coin nor token, it's a privately produced fundraising medal. The fact that this one is so worn, and seems to have been re-holed after the first hole broke open, tells me it was worn for many years. This example is on the Museum Victoria website.

We might want to see pics of that one, too (probably in a new, separate thread, in the British Coins section). There were many card-game-counter replicas of British guineas produced.

It is interesting to know that fund raising tokens were struck in good old days. This reminds me of the "refugee relief" superscribed stamps issued in India to raise funds for the refugees in 1971.Never knew about tokens of that nature.
