1900 3 Pence: Maundy Or Not? - Coin Community Forum

rexvictor Valued Member United States 115 Posts	Posted 10/13/2011 12:02 am Hello everyone, I'm curious about your opinions on a 1900 3 pence. It has really great toning consistent with some maundy money, especially on the denomination side. I wouldn't say that it is prooflike, but there is a slight cameo effect to the portrait and it is well struck--better than the pictures suggest. It's quite a challenge taking photos of the 3 pence, let alone the penny! Thanks for your help. Report this Post to the Staff

It is how well it has been struck. However, if a Maundy 3d has been circulated, and is below good EF, it is almost impossible to say for sure that it is a Maundy or not. Report this Post to the Staff

I felt that this was the case, but I'm not sure how literally to take the "prooflike" description these coins usually get. I have seen some that were obviously struck on highly polished planchets, but this seems to be more true of the later maundy coins (KEVII, GV)... Report this Post to the Staff
