Here's my other latest acquisition. The pics are at a slight angle to show the details better. What's covering parts of the legends is just gunk.

Probus-Antoninianus

It's attributed as RIC 158, Rome mint.

Nice coin, looks like it still has some dirt that should come off if you let soak in olive oil.

Yeah, this is the coin I spoke of with you on the other thread. Very nice. It looks like it will clean up very nice. Good acquisition.

Wouldn't have guessed it needs a bit more cleaning. Well here's another more direct picture to make sure if it needs a cleaning or not:

Actually, I think you have it at it's best right now. If you try to take it down any more, you'll lose the patina and you know how I feel about that. It's a very nice coin. I'm watching another Probus on horseback, but not the same attribution. I haven't bid yet and not sure I will. But I'm watching it. Again, nice coin.

I was wondering about the cleaning, since it didn't really look dirty to me. When I have a dirty ancient in mind, I think of those in unclean lots. But yeah, that's it's actual color and everything. Thanks for your opinion jw. And good luck if you decide to bid on the coin your watching.

From the looks of the coin I don't think you can do anything to try to make it look better, instead it will bring down the quality of the coin. Nice reverse on that coin(I like the horse and rider) and a good coin overall. I need to keep studying the ancients there is SO MUCH MORE to ancients then to USA coins. you guys have inspired me alot in the few days I have been here in this forum. thanks for adding a new dimension to my coin collecting.
