$30.

The first places to look for wear on these coins is on the King's beard, and on the head of the maces. This one looks nice on the maces, but I do notice some slight wear around the side of the King's eye, and on his beard. EF/Unc.

I have 5 of these critters, just because I like the look of them. This one is about equal to my best.

The reverse was Gruger Gray's first design that went into production. Perhaps his best, but many excellent designs were to follow.

I don't collect Australian, but I could sure make an exception for this coin.

It has nice details but it has also received an unfortunate wiping/cleaning as evidenced by the horizontal hairlines on the obverse. My first Aussie coin was a Parliament House Florin, received as a CCF Secret Santa present

A great present if you ask me, how much value do you think will be detracted due to its cleaning?

my guess is you paid between 12 and 16 dollars, hard (at least for me) to tell too much from pics, but they sell for this range often.
As for value, I would say (given you purchased it on the open market) that the value is what you paid - it is was worth more then someone would have bid more ;-) hehehe
nice coin all the same.

I can't see too many steps at the front of parlement house but the kings head is in great shape, It may have had a bit of a cloth rub but that hasen't hurt this coin too much, ef+ to aunc book value $50 ef $110 aunc I recon you paid $23 to $27 for this.
These are in my opinion the verry best design pre decimal Australian minted.
Whatever the grade these are a great coin.
You rarely get one of these in less than vf

trout1105;
Interesting that you mention those steps. It is normally one way that you can determine the quality of the strike.

However..... I was at a view day for an auction and a PROOF Parliament House was up for sale, and I decided to request a view of it. There was also a choice (but not Gem) Uncirculated in a different part of the sale, and I decided to view that as well.

I was able to get my 20x gemcutter's loupe on to both examples.

There was more step detail in the uncirculated example than there was in the proof.

The example pictured here is fairy poor in the area of step detail, but it is still a reasonably pleasing coin. If this coin was purchased recently, I still think $30 would be the about the right market price.

Interesting point Sel.
I would have assumed that the proof would have had perfect detail.
I wonder if the proof was struck from a die that had been producing coins for circulation.
Or they decided that more detail was needed after vewing the proof coin and retooled the dies for production

I forgot to add that I would happily pay at least $45 for aarongs florin.
I only put a guess at what was paid for it because he said he got it at a good price.
It is a very nice coin
