Here are the pictures of the Toonie and the Quarters from the new release. I believe all will be released for circulation except for the coloured quarters.

I believe the middle one is a killer whale. I thought they may be native american drawings.

These will be circulation coins. Sure, there will be collector packaging of these... But, why are these in the nclt section? Am I missing something here?

>>> edit >>> From the RCM site (italics et al added by me).

The commemorative circulation coins unveiled by Canadian government officials and representatives of Parks Canada and the Mint, at a public ceremony hosted at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec include: the 2011 Parks Canada Centennial one-dollar circulation coin; the 2011 Boreal Forest two-dollar circulation coin; and three new 25-cent circulation coins (half of which will be coloured) featuring the Orca, Peregrine Falcon and Wood Bison. The 2011 Parks Canada Centennial one-dollar coin will begin circulating in the coming weeks, followed by the remaining 2011 commemorative circulation coins later this year, and in early 2012.

These must be the ugliest coins I have seen. It is like someone mixed up the real designs with the throw-out pile. I could "Etch A Sketch" a better design.

Pay attention for ERRORS. These 25 cent coins are dated 2011, but are not coming out until 2012. There's bound to be die errors just thinking about it.

Given that the $1 is so busy, I would anticipate a large number of die fills and Cuds (breaks)

I think this is all good for our hobby. Despite the childish designs. Affordable, available to everyone.

Amazing, I really like these coins, they are what i'd love to find in circulation! I especially like the dollar coin, but they make a great series. I know a few have said you don't like them, but they are different and I think you will like them when you get them!

How could you call these coins ugly? They are beautiful, symbolic representations of some of the most important animals that define Canada, in the eyes of the people who first lived here. the designs are clean, yet bold. Frankly, if you want ugly, flip the coin over and you can see Richard Nixon's twin sister on the obverse... we have probably the worst portrait of Elizabeth II in the Commonwealth.
