I have not heard of these being struck in pure gold and would be interested in hearing from others if I can be corrected, however there were a lot of these that were gold plated for use in jewelry at the time.

What are your views? is this solid gold or just plated?

If his claim that only 3 exist! is true.
Than I'd suggest you snap it up quick, with a buy it now price of $250 it is undoubtedly a bargain.

LOL - if it is solid gold, it would weigh 1.186oz so is a bargain at the BIN price... however the plated ones sell for around 12 to 15 dollars, so it is way overpriced... I have asked the seller for the weight of the coin so we will see...

Had a quick look around and could only find the 2009 gold issue 50c
http://www.nomismata.de/Australia-5...-Anniversary

The 1977 jubilee was made in Cupro-Nickel and Silver.

Not to mention if it was solid gold it would have a deep butter yellow colour, not the light tint that is shown.

Oh and the point of no one would ever see a gold coin in circulation! Duh
And a buy it now for $250, when the person could of cashed it in at a jeweller for gold price.

I think the seller whose name is 'pricey0101' is also by nature.

Perhaps it is a bad photo, but it appears to be just a standard 'silver' CuproNickel.

I agree with Australian Coin, who puts a gold 50c piece back into circulation? Thats right, no-one.

i found one of these with a slight gold tinge to it too, maybe I should sell it.
:P
(sarcasm people!)

I got it last week and it looks like it has been sitting in storage for a bit as it doesn't look used.
