First I wanted to let you know I'm working on it, but I will need some time. Second, what is the size and weight? And lastly, do you have any idea who the obverse image might be?

I'm not 100 % on this one, but take a look at SNGCop 1378: Macedonia, under the Romans, AE27. Time of Gordian III, AD 238-244 AD. ALEXANDROU, diademed head of Alexander right / KOINON MAKEDONWN B NEWKORWN, E O C below, fronts of two hexstyle temples. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/gree...op_1378v.jpgLet me know what you think. I asked some others I know on another forum to assist with this coin. This coin is the closest they were able to come so far. Take a look at http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=221141. But in the last line of the legend on the reverse there is one letter more than on the coin presented. That may just be a shop identifier, but that is only my guess However, it would seem that Elagabalus added the letter ' to ΝΕΩΚΟΡΟC and conferred upon the κοινον the additional privilege of issuing most of its bronze coins without the Imperial bust. Let me know what you think. JW

Lazarus, I received this message from Dane Kurth (Helvetica) at Wildwinds:
The reference is BMC 110: It has the same legend and date as yours (BNE) and the same legend breaks. It is described as "two pentastyle (sic) temples seen in front" (the "sic" is part of the description). The BMC example is 1.05" in diameter so (to save you working it out) 26.67mm. I would like to use yours for wildwinds, it's a very nice coin. (don't be offended though if I get rid of the eye-boggling red background )
I made sure she knows it is not my coin, but if you would like to have her reference you as the owner, please send me your personal information via private message. Congratulations on owning such a nice coin that it will be referenced in wildwinds.

No need to thank me. All I did was pass the information along. Kinda like the middle man. Again, Congrats!

Neocorate temples honored the Imperial Cult and building more than one such temple would give a city such bragging rights that it would show up on coins. B NE is not a date but reference to the fact that this issuing authority had two temples. Sometimes it is spelled out more completely as on the Macrinus on my page: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/do...th/neok.html
