A blob of wax was dropped on the paper and these were used to stamp an image in it. Signet rings were used for the same purpose. Report this Post to the Staff
D Pillar of the Community Canada 899 Posts	Posted 10/16/2011 09:12 am It is a medievel seal, looks like from the 14th - 15th century. The boar inside the shield would indicate that this is more than likely a family crest. The alaphabet appears to be Lombardic and starting with the cross at the top (12:00) the first letter to the left is S which usually means seal of and then followed by the names. Nice find....
