I don't have it in hand or I wouldn't have to ask since I know what a quarter of an ounce of 22k gold feels like, but ... what are the chances that this is a legitimate coin and not a brass token?

The guy I bought it from is selling off his Dad's collection, which is in 3 ring binders full of pages like this one. I don't think he's a student of numismatics ... because if he was, I think he'd do a much better job of representing what he's selling rather than just lumping it all into lots. I could be wrong ...

It's keeping good compeny to be an actual coin. I paid 80 bucks for what's displayed here.

It certainly looks "gold-like", especially compared to the dull bronze surrounding it. It also seems quite thick, judging by the distortion we're seeing in the 2x2 film around it - the imitation guinea card counters were usually much thinner.

So on the face of it, I'd conclude it's certainly possible that it's a genuine guinea.

I hadn't considered the thickness ... good eye. I think I may have the real answer tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be smiling. The Conders are neat, but not worth much in their lesser conditions.

I will do that when they arrive. They will either be her a little later today, or tomorrow. These came out of the Philadelphia area via ebay. The pictures are the ones provided the prospective buyer ... and they're pretty bad.

They arrived this morning, and the guinea ... is a brass token and quite thin. It weighed 2 tenths of an ounce in the 2x2 ... but I like the coppers. I photographed them and published a folder with the 14 images within.
