I was wondering if there's a market for old Whitman albums.

For example, I have two Flying Eagle/Indian Head Cents albums from 1940. They even have a hole for the 1856 FE--and it gives a mintage as 2.7 million!

Just wondering if people collect these and where I could sell them if it seemed like a good idea.

2.7 million 1856 FE's? Either someone made a serious typo or somewhere along the line we collectors have been lied too......

Actually, I have found this to be quite common. I have a few very old Blue Books, and the mintages given for some of the rarer coins are completely different from the mintages we know today. For example, they list the 1913 Liberty nickel as having six known specimens, not five.

Presently there is no one collecting any of those. At coin shows I get many of those free from dealers. One dealer at a coin show had a hugh box of them on the table with a sign saying Free, one to a person. One dealer just gave me a box of about 20 of them and free. Error ones someday may be worth something but for now, most people throw them away.

Thanks, Carl. I have a few old ones that have come down through my family over the years, and while they're nice heirlooms, they're not in good shape. Guess I'll stow them away someplace for old time's sake.
