I hope these images do the trick..they are scans, and therefore a bit flat looking. What I am looking for is a grade, and a top and bottom price. This coin was sent for grading with PCGS. When it came back, I was pleasantly surprised..(I am a pessimist) When it comes to a top and bottom price, what I am asking for is,( if all things were equal, i.e. you had the means to buy).... as serious collectors, what you yourself be willing to pay?. I am not asking for the book price. << This is not, by the way, a backdoor way of selling to anyone.>>

That is an AU, possibly even MS. VERY NICE coin. I would pay 1800 or so if it were AU. If it is the MS I think it is, 4500 or so.

And it doesn't even matter if this IS a back door way of trying to sell it. I know I personally would have to sell my kids into slavery to be able to spend that much on one coin. The more I look at it though.....

AU50, I think, and actually rather a conditional rarity in AU. They tend to be well-worn, or Mint State in terms of availability. If one wanted to buy such an animal, I think one would need to write a check for $1500-1600.

A few AU-50 have sold on Heritage this past year, and they seem to bring about $1600-1700 though there is one certified by ANACS that only brought about $1150.

So... thanks for the input. Here is what actually happened. What are your thoughts in the light of this.. it was slabbed as genuine.. but not gradable. the site #92.. that it might have been cleaned. You only have my word for it that as long as I know of the provenance... bought by my wife's father somewhere between 1950 to 72,(when he died), it was not cleaned. What does that do to your assesment? mostly ..would you still pay the same price.. if not, then what? What would you do in this case.. contest it? is this grade a negative as I suspect?

A few cleaned examples that have around AU-50 details have sold this past year on Heritage for around $800 or so. There is one example that sold for $575 but that one had another problem in addition to being cleaned.
