We're hopefully moving soon and the plan is to have all LED lighting in the new place. As some folks noticed the Jansjo's are 2-piece units and can be bolted to other mounts. So instead of "track lighting" I'm planning to put a bunch of Jansjo's on a bar in the family room and point them variously. They will replace all my desk lamps and will double for room lamps as well by pointing them upwards. The only other lights I'll have are a couple 6500k CFLs I use for product photography. I may even get rid of them if I can gang a few of the Jansjo's together...Ray

LED's are steadily coming down in price - every new generation we put on the shelf (I work for a big-box retailer) is cheaper than the last. A 6w high-output GU10-base replacement for my usual halogens is available online for less than $10, and will essentially last forever.
There's a downside to this, though. That 6w LED has a rated output of 330 lumens, only about a third of the halogen. Compromises will have to be made in photographic technique; I'm not expecting to be able to shoot much faster than 1/100 under LED lighting unless I bring all 3 to bear, and LED's may be a suboptimal solution for those with lesser cameras.
CFL is still the price-performance sweet spot, especially when one factors per-bulb output. That will likely not change within the next few years.

I have been using these IKEA lamps for well over a year, and they really are great. They are so small and easy to work with, and they have great fairly decent white light. Glad you got them! And, for that price, how can it be bad right? My most recently imaged coin (purchased on Saturday):

A caution on the Target LED lights: the light they put out isn't white. It's yellow. I have to cool the temp of the pics I take with it in Photoshop.

Not sure about the Target LEDs, but the slightly warm yellow color of the Jansjo's is a big step forward for LED lights. The latest crop of consumer LEDs is much more balanced and warm than previous (second gen) crop. I don't know the LED wavelength, but my suspicion is it's near UV rather than the blue of the first and second gens. This improves efficiency of the phosphors and eliminates the blue spike so common in previous generations. Some folks have complained about white balancing the Jansjo's, and I've read favorable reports about using Tungsten setting. The Jansjo runs around 3000K, while Tungsten is around 3400K, so should be "close enough".
I've often wondered if the UV bleeds through, and that this may be the root of some folk's concern over WB and "sparkle". Maybe I will try taking some pics with and without a UV filter and see if there is a difference...Ray

Finally picked up a couple of these lights and so far I am quite impressed with them for the cost, the ease of posistioning the lights is outstanding! And the fact I can remove them from the base and eventually attach them to my copy stand is a big plus!
LED also make for a much cooler working enviroment while shooting!

I am getting frustrated with my pictures that I may have to take the long way back through Dallas to the IKEA store. Why don't they sell these on-line? Here is another, slightly less on price; http://www.ikeamarketplace.com/jansjo-work-lamp/$15.99 each $14.59 shipping for two $46.57 USD

Do they have these with the clamp instead of the table top base? To attach to my copy stand base. After rereading earlier posts, the base is removable. I will have to check out the ebayer when I get home...it's blocked at work (or I would never get any work done).

Not that I've seen. The bases are heavy though, they pretty much stay put. I keep one on top of my copy stand and run it down next to the camera and keep it a few inches short of the end of the lens pointing in the same direction. It moves up and down with the slide.
