Hello all, so here's an 1855 Half Cent, which I would like to have some opinions on the grade.

Also, I have a question on this coin (late 1850s Half Cents in general) - with the low mintages why aren't these coins worth more? Am I mistaken or do they seem a bit undervalued?

Thanks,
Matthew

I would grade this Xf because of wear in the hair, rim and the leaves.

The value of a coin type depends on the market. As the number of collectors increases for a certain coin type the prices usually go up too. Some coins are always high no matter the coin type because of rarity.

I think this coin is a AU-55 or 58 but I could see this coin being graded MS. I think there might be a slight amount of friction on the leaves.

It is a good strike what messed me up is the rim. I cant tell if that is PMD or if that is from worn dies.

I guess this is a coin where a loupe would come in handy.

My guess is au. If you do not mind my asking how much did you pay? I paid $80 for my 1851. By the way, great coin!

I think these coins were becoming unpopular in the mid 1800's so many weren't circulated or lost.
