Is it worth buying foreign coins by the pound? Would you recommend it for beginner collectors? Please share your experiences buying mixed foreign coins.

I agree with the others. and I got started that way. It was fun and inexpensive. After trying it for a while it may spark a more specific path for your collection to head in.

Well, I can tell you from experience that it's a great choice if you love the surprise of not knowing what you might get. And if your just starting your collection then it's an excellent way to obtain coins from multiple countries. I've found a local shop that sells them to me $7.00 per pound, and I get to examine and choose the coins by hand myself.

that's how I got started in all this insanity.....i went to a local auction and they had several large lots of older foreign coins, some in 2x2's and in binder pages and others just in coffee cans.Well nobody seemed to be bidding on these so I bought several lots at $2-$5 per batch.By the time I was done sorting and labeling and storing them,i was hooked! Now here I am a coinaddict. I I'm telling you Nooooooooooo!DON'T DO IT!LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!!

Got all of my foreign coin collection by combing through bag and box lots at auction. I also have a dealer who saves them for me as he finds them. I have come across quite a few silver coins doing this, as well as some unusual ones. It can be fun.
