I found this in the reject tube. It weighs 7.4g, is not magnetic, and has the size of a quarter. What is it and how can I tell if it's real? Thanks Identified - moved to Ancients forum - SapEdited by Yinzi50 10/16/2011 11:39 pm

I am interested in it's provenance. I am a little slow, and need to ask:
What do you mean by the 'reject tube'?
Without that info., it seems to be quite OK to me, but I don't have it in hand.

Hi, sel_69l, "reject tube or tray" is referring the coin counting machine. All coins not met the specification will be rejected and spilled out through a tube and customer can retrieve them back. Sometimes you can get previous customer's leftover.

You found this in a coin counting reject tray? Amazing.... I mean, it looks real to me. But I'd wait for the pros to come by and pass their judgement on it.

My guess is that its geniune. I have attributed your coin as follows:
Galerius AE Follis RIC VI 42 Cyzicus mint, AD 308-309. OBV: GAL MAXIMIANVS P F AVG, Laureate head right. Rev: GENIO A-VGVSTI, Genius standing left, holding patera & cornucopiae. B in left field. Mintmark MKV in ex.
Give me some time and I will determine the market value for you. Nice find by the way. Most any of us on the Ancients discussion board would love to find something like this.
Regards,
JW

Sorry, my mistake. It should be Cyzicus RIC VI 53 because of the star in the right field. Everything else is the same.

The value of this coin is somewhere in the vicinity of $25 or less. Here is one for sale by a very reputable dealer so his prices are almost always on the high side: http://www.acsearch.info/search.htm...=&c=&a=&l=#4If I owned the coin and wanted to sell it, I would hope for between $15-$20 and accept $12-$17. I hope I've been of some help. The next time you come across any ancients, post in the ancients discussion board where you will receive a ton of help. I was just browsing through CC and your post caught my eye. Totally by accident. Good luck with your coin. JW
