I'm curious as to grading but also any variety info is greatly appreciated. I know it is 13-Star reverse but how can you tell if it is Normal or Irregular date? Any sub varieties?
Beautiful silver dollar! I think this coin is VG-10 and the die variety is BB-158, B-16. I am not very familiar with early dollar die varieties but I used this website: http://www.earlydollars.org/index.asp to attribute it. Can someone else confirm or deny the die variety?
there is detail in the curls and the hair behind the ear, the date, legend and stars are all visible. All the lines in the shield are strong and separated, and I can see at least half of the feathers on the wings so I would grade this a F15.
Just found these on the heritage site. Different die varieties but still comparing apples to apples. Any observations? And to DoubleEagle - thanks for the variety info and the link to EarlyDollars.org.
Nearly full rims, all letters on obverse visible and clear, good tone, rev - motto clearly visible, half feathers, breast is worn but shield shows considerable detail - at least a Fine ( ANA); 1799 in all grades lists for $900 in good. Congratulations.
