Can't Identify Chinese Coin - Coin Community Forum

My father passed away awhile ago and I have been going through some old boxes and found a bunch of coins. One of them is a chinese coin but I can't find any info on it. hesgut Pillar of the Community 1028 Posts	Posted 10/19/2011 01:26 am Yes, it is a 500 Yuan proof gold coin. It's minted to be exactly 5 oz. of gold and will follow the spot price of gold exactly. As I write this, that equates to $8310 worth of gold. It probably has a premium similar to any proof gold or silver coin minted by an established mint. Julian1976 New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 10/19/2011 01:44 am Thanks for your responses. I looked up the 500 yuan gold coin as you stated it was and I found out a little more about it. It's a 1988 Lunar Dragon series coin, they made only 3000 of these and the last few that were auctioned off recently have gone for between 20-25k. Thank you for all your help I really appreciate it.
