Hey all I'm new to the forum, I'm happy to have found this site. My father passed away awhile ago and I have been going through some old boxes and found a bunch of coins. One of them is a chinese coin but I can't find any info on it. Can anyone tell me what it is and maybe if it's worth anything? Thanks for all your help.

Yes, it is a 500 Yuan proof gold coin. It's minted to be exactly 5 oz. of gold and will follow the spot price of gold exactly. As I write this, that equates to $8310 worth of gold. It probably has a premium similar to any proof gold or silver coin minted by an established mint. Therefore, I'd say it's worth about $8400

Thanks for your responses. I looked up the 500 yuan gold coin as you stated it was and I found out a little more about it. It's a 1988 Lunar Dragon series coin, they made only 3000 of these and the last few that were auctioned off recently have gone for between 20-25k. Thank you for all your help I really appreciate it.
