Started collecting stars a few months ago. I've got a job that allows me to go through up to ~2,000 bills per shift (on a slow night). A lot of the bills I can go through come from the bank, and are in new to good condition. I never have the money to switch out 10's, 20's, 50's or 100's, but I've seen a few stars of each. I do plan on finding and buying (switching out) some 10's, 20's, 50's, and 100's when I get the chance. I guess I'm curious as to which of these are worth more than face value/which might be worth having professionally graded. I have pictures, but no access to a scanner currently. I know the majority of my 2006 G*'s are from a run of 3,712,000 which I thought was odd considering the normal run was 3,200,000 (I'd love an explanation behind this). I will probably end up keeping all of them, because I think it's a fun hobby. Very, very crisp. J 00005831 C 2006 Still the lowest note I've seen of any denomination. L 66666366 F 2009 Binary note! This was actually one of my earliest finds. I'll probably be posting much more on this site, especially after I buy a scanner. Thanks for any help! Edited by jayhawkfan 10/19/2011 10:00 pm

Always glad to have another bill collector on board. Any bill that is obtained by face value just adds to thrill of the chase! You could get an inexpensive scanner (an all-in-one may be more versatile, but a stand alone scanner is my preference) to catalog your collection. I am not sure of a values website, but someone should chime in before too long. I used to be in a similar position to browse through numerous bills at the end of the day, and have obtained quite a few bills myself; stars, repeaters, radars, etc... You may have just inspired me to organize my bills! Thanks!

I'm a bit of a nerd, so I actually keep track of my collection through an Excel spreadsheet. That way, my collection is easily sorted by the Federal Reserve Bank, SN, Series, the total number of bills in a run, and total FRB series production. It's pretty nifty. I'm working on having Excel parse all that information from the tables I borrowed from http://mycurrencycollection.com/ref.../stars/1.php, so I can just type in the FRB, SN, and series and it will fill in all the rest.

You might not be aware that many new scanners these days are programmed to not scan new notes, so be sure to purchase from a place where you can easily return it if needed. From Wikipedia: In 2004, CBCDG announced the development of a "Counterfeit Deterrence System" (CDS) incorporating a technical means for the detection of banknotes.[2] This system was reportedly developed by the U.S.-based watermark technology company Digimarc. CBCDG said that the purpose of this system was to "prevent personal computers and digital imaging tools from capturing or reproducing the image of a protected banknote."[2] As stated the technology relies on watermarks and does not rely on the EURion pattern as many think. Also from Wikipedia: experiments by Steven J. Murdoch and others showed that this banknote detection code does not rely on the EURion pattern.[6] It instead detects a digital watermark embedded in the images, developed by Digimarc.[7]

With the current economic situation, the humble $1 is getting more attention and respect. Can't beat a face value collection of singles for value.
For some reason, few St. Louis $1s circulate around here (Wisconsin), so I set them aside as a small-scale savings account. I have always enjoyed my visits to St. Louis, but I've never had the funds to collect St. Louis nationals.
