I have had luck before on craigslist, but so much of it is just uneducated people selling their prized treasures that are worth squat in reality to what they are selling for.

I always thought of Craig's list as a rip off and heard a lot of bad stories. So, I never shop there and stay away from it. But you never know, if you're careful you might be able to find a good deal, but I couldn't count on it.

Of course, browsing the place to check out the idiots can be fun. Haha. Those ads are really amusing though. I'd have to say the 1923 W dime is pretty funny.

He should be asking a lot more for such a rare coin as the 23W.

If you can weed through all the bull poop, you can stumble across the occasional legitimate deal. Of course, I havent seen anything worthwhile on CL in a very long time...doesn't mean it cant happen

Who knew that West Point was making Mercury dimes 14 years before it was built, and 50 years before the next coin was made there!

I'm sure this guy got a copy of the Red Book, over graded his 1926-S (if that is really what the Buffalo is), and now thinks he is offering a great bargain.

They breed also..... LOL

From what I have seen on Craigslist is as you discribe a bunch of idots that don't have a clue what their coins are worth. Also alot of folks that bought silver or gold bullion and now can't sell it for what they paid for it....In the words of PT Barnum.......

I've been able to do well with Craigslist as a useful option, but anymore you have to dig through so many crap posts like that to get anything worth your time... Sad...

NO, NO, not West Point, this coin was made in West Alabama. He just didn't notice it was a W and an A together.
I may be wrong since it could be West Chicago by Big Al's boys.

I dont know if I would call someone an idiot for not knowing. That would be Ignorant. An Idiot is someone who has the knowledge, and chooses to ignore it.

What do you call someone who is Ignorant, but choose to pretend that they in fact have some knowledge, only to then confess that they are "not an expert"?

The guy with the Merc dime obviously thinks that the W that is on the dime to represent the designer Weinman is a mint mark. I thought the same thing when I saw my first Merc. It didn't take me long to figure out that I was wrong. I guess I was an idiot at one time too.
