No more than 15 of these exclusive coins will be crafted for collectors of both fine art and of the finest gold in the world. Its price is a combination of the gold market rate at the time of purchase, plus a premium for its manufacturing and very limited mintage. Yes, somewhere in the $600K range...give or take $50K ;)

And yes, the video is having a sound problem :(
It should be fixed in the next day or so we hope. It's a huge file so uploading it takes a LONG time.

When gold drops below $300 will the mint take it back at face value?

DBM, although the Royal Canadian Mint sells new collector coins directly to the public through its boutiques and online store, it does not buy back old collector coins. Remember this is more than a coin with a straight up monetary value - it is a very exclusive piece of art. In fact, it's been crafted to appeal to collectors of both fine art and of the finest gold in the world.

In my opinion, it it an artists rendition sculpted and struck in precious metal. It is art, it is not a coin...

If the Mint does not buy coins back at their face value, then what is the point of face value? You are saying you can't actually spend this money? Why have a value at all?

It's pretty simple. All coins produced by the Royal Canadian Mint are legal tender and, as such, must have a face value. And although the Royal Canadian Mint sells new collector coins directly to the public through its boutiques and online store, it does not buy back old collector coins. We leave that to the secondary markets.

So we have been told. But where can you redeem NCLT coins for face value?
Last year we had an interesting discussion on this site when members tried to get $20 for their $20for$20 coins.
Businesses won't take them, banks didn't want them,so as a representative of the source of these coins can you tell us where to redeem them for face value?

The Mint should honor these coins for their face value and accept them as currency. If these coins' own mother won't accept them for face value, who would?

If they are legal tender, then the Mint should prove it.

Hopefully the RCM rep comes back with a definitive answer to the NCLT face value issue. It's terrific to have a mint rep on the forum.
