I am about to embark on collecting the basic set of Capped Bust half dollars, and I would Ike to put them in a coin album. Unfortunately, when I search for the major companies that sell the early half dollar albums, they always include the earlier varieties as well. Do they make coin albums for just the capped bust series, or do I have to customize by just buying blank half dollar pages?

I ended up taking the first page out of the Dansco Bust Half Dollars album (the early Draped Bust Half Dollars) and put it back into the album behind the Capped Bust half dollars pages. That way, when you open the album, you don't see a bunch of Draped Bust Half Dollar empty holes.

Good luck!

Capped Bust half dollars are my favorite collection!

Thanks for the suggestion. I did notice though that the Dansco album doesn't show the reverse of the coin. Is there an album that does show the reverse?

I have mine in an old Whitman that shows both sides and has no dates. Just says Half Dollars on the cover. It's about 40 yrs old. Don't know if they still make them.

I don't think I've ever seen a Dansco album that didn't show both sides of the coin.

A word of warning about collecting bust halves in an album. You will find that most likely a lot of the coins will be loose in the holes and will rattle around and rotate. This is because since the coins were struck without a close collar every coin is a slightly different size. The hole will be sized to fit the largest size that you are likely to encounter. Most of your coins will be smaller and loose, and a few you may have to enlarge the hole to get the coin into it.

Yeah, I had to 4enlarge a couple of holes. It was a pain. used a knife to scrape it. any other ideas?

Also, looking for an album to store the different overton varieties. probably just need to get blank pages?

I would be careful with any coins of value in those albums!
