I picked the half dollar up from a coin shop recently, the coin is not cleaned (that I know of). Al so I paid $70.00 for this half. It seemed kind of cheap, however their is rim damage at 12 o clock, and a scratch on the back, and "states" is worn on the back. I gave it my grade personally and it would really help me if you guys could chime in and give me the value and grade. Thanks you guys are so helpful!

Ryan

Is it a 9/8 overdate? It looks like it could be.

I agree VG10 would be a fair grade and $70 a fair price.

The rim bruise at 12:00 and the scratch don't look severe enough to warrant a damage designation.

No it's a straight 1819. Darn, I was hoping to sell it right away, too put towards some mercs :). I bought it thinking it would fetch around 120, whoops! You win some and you lose some.

Thanks, I looked in the RedBook for advice, it doesn't look like it though. How do I tell. The dealer I bought it from said it was straight 1819. Maybe hes wrong :)?

There is a clashed die variety for this date where there is a double profile. If you look in front of the face it looks like there is another set of lips. It might just be the pictures but it looks like there is a shadow profile in front of the real face.
