The bubbles on this 1979 dime are unusually located. The reverse one is 180 degrees from the obverse one. Are these caused by gas bubbles? Any thoughts? Is it rare?
Yes they are causd by trapped gas bubbles. Bubbles that expanded after the coin was exposed to heat high enough to randed the metal "plastic" allowing the bubble to expand like a balloon.
