Hi all.

I have almost no experience with Norway coins and I imagine that grading one of this age is tricky. I would welcome any assistance offered! Hard for me to know how much lack of detail is wear and how much is due to the strike.

Wow...that is a nice coin! I think I see mint luster, and suspect the coin has more detail to show...
I wonder if this coin could grade as high as EF or 1+ on the European scale? The break at 2:00 appears to be a flan defect.

I think that the break is a flan defect. It does have lustre. I was hoping it might be a high grade coin. I don't have a Krause but I saw something on line talking about a book value of close to 500 in EF.

I think I'm off on the European grade--it's closer to an 01, and in my 1999 Siegs, the value is put at 3800 Danish Kroner, or about $709 US at the current exchange--very nice coin in all respects! Perhaps Litotes will drop by and give a current estimate of value.

Nice coin! It looks to my eyes as a 1+/01, and slightly closer to 1+ than 01. This corresponds to a weak EF. The lion is always weakly struck on these, look to the crown and the portrait for assessment of wear. The flan defect does not look too bad. My guess would be a hammer price around $1000 if sold on a Norwegian auction. No guarantee, though. The flan defect could put buyers off. I have recently seen to very similar coins, each with flan defect, the first got the expected price but the second fetched $700. Same conscriptor.

Thanks for the input. I think I will sell it, plus another 1844 that I have in a somewhat lower grade. Maybe VF. I don't focus on Norway coins and whoever ends up with it after me will probably get less than they should for it. COuld anyone recommend a Norwegian dealer/auction? Is Mynt og Seddel a good dealer?

Very nice coin, that I would grade at EF-40.
