Sorry, but I don't see an XF coin there. Since NCS is affiliated with NGC, I would have expected a more accurate grade on this one. I'd accept VF details.

Ouch. That's not very complimentary to NCS' grading skills.

I have to agree, that thing is horribly overgraded, kind of reminds me of the Jules Reiver collection, but I actually think that one is worst then what they graded them

I would grade the penny at Fine. It is getting harder to trust the grading companies, back to the basics, grade the coin as you see it and if that matches the slab, then you have a bonus. One other thing I noted about his return policy; quote: All sales are final. All of our items are thoroughly inspected before shipping. All purchases are non-returnable unless defective. A defective unit is an item that does not work properly. This does not cover scratches, dents, or cosmetic blemishes. Any defective item will be replaced, if we can not replace the item, a refund will be given. Buyer is responsible for the shipping both ways
Does that mean the penny may not work properly?

It has been my experience that circulated coins often appear to be more worn in pics when they are slabbed. I think it has to do with the diffusion of light through the plastic. That is why I would have believed VF details. One way or another, XF is right out of the ballpark.

Techniquely by NGC its a EF-40 conservatively PCGS VF-30, by the eyes of a collector it is a VF-20.
The pics are as bad Ive ever seen ,,I think the cleaning is harsher than it appears in the pictures, and has washed out some of the sharpness of the detail.
The coin is about 20.00 over value at the opening bid.

Techniquely no the details are still there,, but in the photograph the way that they reflect for sharpness and clarity are gone. the focal point of the pic is all messed up as well with the wings being nothing but a blurry mess, but the head, and left wing show the details for the grade that I have given, NGC is much more liberal than PCGS . Keep in mind that grading is subjective with applied technicalities, such as how much detail is present in certian parts of the coin, not taken as a whole but in fragments and areas. it is after that point that overall eye appeal comes into play, and this is where the collector will down grade this coin. it is not attractive, and that is due to the cleaning, which as I believe much harsher than the images make evident.
