What causes striations marks (they look like sunburst rays from rim to center?

Just a guess without a picture but I assume you are talking about die flow lines that radiate outward from the center of the coin towards the rim. Over time, the die steel is slowly eroded by the numerous strikes it has made. When struck, the planchet expands in a radial manner and this cold flow of metal is what erodes the dies. Die flow lines are also responsible for luster on the resultant coin.
