So after searching ebay auctions, I've seen a lot of auctions with vials of gold flakes. Are these actually worth anything, or are they just a way to attract peoples' bids?

Also could I melt them down into something more useful...say a nugget or a small bar ect?
Rest in Peace

I expect they are worth the price of gold but I have never seen one of those vial with very much in it.

If you want to play with bits of gold you could go to an art supply store or website and just buy gold leaf. It comes in little sheets that are very thin and can be used for decorations and such.

I honestly don't know how hot the gold would have to be before it would melt...so there's something to check out before you buy.
Rest in Peace
