Weird, the obverse is all worn and the reverse is really nice, what gives. Stuck through grease...

I'm not sure what kind of mint error accounts for the reverse, but it looks like a 1950s Mexico 5 centavos.

I go with Amida17 - this is not a minting error, but heavy wear. You can see scratches as well.

When I was a kid - about 6 years old I found a very similar coin on a dirt footpath in the woods. The top surface had been worn 100% smooth with no hint of a design left but the down facing side would grade Fine - it was a US V nickel. How it had stayed there unobserved for years always amazed me. I still have it someplace.

If the coin was laying on pavement the scratches and grooves would be far deeper.

This reminds me of something I did when I was 5 or 6.

I was in my mum's room and saw a 5 dollar bill sticking out of her purse. Now, my dad told me before that he looked in the forest and found some money that people dropped in the woods.

So I took the 5 dollar bill, shouted to my mum that I was going to go look for money in the woods, stepped outside for 2 seconds, came back in and told my mum what I ``found``.

She remembered that she had a five dollar bill like that in her purse and also it had been raining a lot and I was completely dry so I was caught.

So now she tells that story to everyone at Christmas every year

I just saw a coin "collection" that was embedded in the counter at a hardware store here in Mexico. The top of the coins were all extrememly worn, but I'll bet you if you pulled em up they'd look just like this coin.

I'm with Harrison2, it could have been embedded on to something may be a pool table or a gaming table. I don't think this was out in the open and exposed to the elements. The reverse doesn't show any severe pitting or scratches.

I think this coin has very bad scratches that affect it's beauty & distort the image drawn there.
