I purchased this at auction recently at the behest of my numismatic mentor. It arrived yesterday. He looked it over and offered up his grade. I'll tell you what he said and what I paid after a few people comment. Sorry about the pix not revealing the "pinwheel" effect. I shot it with an instant focus digital camera and a forty watt bulb.

Looks MS-65 but there seems to be some hairlines around the V.

I'd say BU with the same concerns with the hairlines. I like to use the reverse corn kernels and other high points to aid in grading these.

Very nice looking coin though, a definite keeper.

I would say MS65 (yes the corn kernels on the left are really nice) - there are some marks on liberty's face that will keep it from going higher IMHO.

Oh, by the way, I give it

Thank you, gentlemen. I value you opinion highly. My trained friend informed me when the coin arrived I had an MS 65, but the mark on the chin and "ding" in the reverse rim kept the coin from being evaluated any higher. It was his phone call that prompted me to join the auction in the finally two minutes of trading. He also gave me the going price which ultimately won the coin - $36.00. I think I made out well, don't you?

I have to say that finding this site was a godsend. I try to surf here everyday. However, trying to publish a novel and holding down a household as a stay-at-home dad of three (and at my age!) has been a challenge. I pointed this site out to my mentor (whom I cannot mention as he evaluates coins in the industry) and even he was not aware of it. So, keep up the good work you do. Good coin hunting, fellow numismatists. May you land on the right auction site at the right time with the right price.
