I found this in another forum..if you want costs for slabbing your sets, read on:
----------------------
1/ No, the mint will only ship your order as you placed it i.e. you placed an order for three sets, they will ship the three sets together. You can cancel items placed in the same order up until they are ready to ship, but you cannot otherwise modify an existing order.

2/ US Mint order fulfillment is doubled checked. On expensive items, the packing slip is initialed by two different people that have verified the contents. In addition they have video surveillance of the order fulfillment area and can trace an order back if they need to.

3/ This really isn't the place to discuss grading services but grading cots vary depending on which service level and grading company you use. PCGS is considered the best grading service and PCGS graded coins will bring the most money on average, especially for modern coins. It will cost approximately $210 in grading fees to have the set certified by PCGS using the slowest turnaround level (modern) with the First Strike 25th Anniversary designation. More info at : http://www.pcgs.com/services/

NGC will be cheaper, but they also bring less money for the top graded '70' coins. NGC grading for the set will be about $115 using the Modern Special service. More info at http://www.ngccoin.com/services/services.asp

Both PCGS and NGC require that you become a member before you can send in coins for grading (about $50/year for the cheapest member option).

4/ Since three of the coins in the set loose the eligibility to be designated as part of the 25th anniversary by the grading services set once it's open, my guess is raw opened sets will bring about $500 while sealed sets eligible for the First Strike 25th Anniversary designation will bring about $800 - $900.

i dont understand why it costs so much to grade?

i have some coins that I want to send in like my 77 proof quarter but I dont want to pay a ridiculous price to have it graded. I've looked around and couldnt find anything that tells you exactly how much something costs to grade but what I think I did understand is the more rare and valuable the coin is, the more expensive it is to get graded

I wonder if you have a 5 free submission certificate could you use it on the ASE set? I guess I am going to have to ask PCGS about this because I have had this certificate almost a year and have yet to use it

There are different tiers that cost different amounts. There is a modern coin (which your 1977 proof would fall into) that has one tier price and there is early bird, regular, economy, and express tiers as well. You choose which tier your coin falls in to and how fast you want it back. If the coin is high value then there is a tier for those coins as well and the reason they are higher is because the shipping insurance is higher usually

I was wondering that too.
But on the PCGS web site they say "* Voucher offer is not valid for Mint Errors, Special Issues, First Strike fees, Variety Attribution fees" So I'm thinking this set might fall under Special Issues.
Hopefully I'm incorrect in my thinking...
Anybody?

I can't confirm, but I highly doubt they would let you use the voucher for this set.

it's unlikely, but still possible, I can see it going under the first strike, and special issue catagories

One note on the PCGS grading....the only coins that are eligible for FS are the "S" and RP which have to be submitted separately from an opened set. The sealed sets will get the 25th anniv. label and actually will be cheaper than their NGC counterparts (grading costs $14 vs. $17 each).

It is not confirmed if the two separately submitted coins will get both 25th AND FS labels but this has been previous practice.

I think the 25th label is the biggie since FS is a joke with this issue but I'm sure some will pay more for it.

@ ilikeikes, so if I join PCGS (Silver membership 49.00) then I'm looking at approximately 210.00 if I
want to get a set graded? I've never sent anything in and just wanna gather as much info if I decide too.
Thanks again!
