I can't help with this -- but the marks look a little like petroglyphs. But I don't really know.

Experts will be along to help and I'll check back to learn what they say.

How did you come across this?

Hello Buddy-

Through the normal exchange of money.
It is the size of a quarter and light like aluminium.
Thanks for the reply

Hello and welcome.

It's not a coin. It appears to be a Japanese "pachinko" token. Pachinko is a peculiarly Japanese form of entertainment, somewhere between a pinball machine and a poker machine.

Do a forum search for "pachinko" and you'll find several tokens of similar design, such as this one.

I agree - a token used to play pachinko, which I'd further describe as a favorite Japanese time-waster and money pit. The game itself is like a vertical pinball machine; you flip a steel ball to the top of the machine, and it bounces around until it ends up in one "cup" or another. Most of the time it's the other losing cup.

The Japanese inscription is "Fire Bird".
