That is a beauty... I would grade that EF-45.

I was surprised. Just got it today in a bunch I'd bought on spec on ebay. And this wasn't the best one in the group. Cost me about a hundred bucks for them all.

I recently read that there are over 400 different die varieties of the 1859 Canadian one cent (pretty amazing, eh?)
... and the example that you have there is certainly a purdy example! (congrats)

Grade = EF 40 'ish. Tough to be certain from the photo. W9/8 die marriage OI1/RD2. Accounts for about 6% of all W9/8 cents. Nice coin.

Stevex6, yes, it's a great date! Bosox, interesting information! Thank you! I've had quite a few of these before but this one stands out for the punch of the 9. I guess if the coin was certified the grading agency wouldn't make any distinction as to the type of W9/8 it is.

I've seen Louis put my die numbers on his holders. I think you have to ask him for them.
I have never seen them on an ICCS holder. PCGS won't because they don't want the guarantee headaches from the variety designation.

Thanks, Dan! It is an attractive coin. And a reminder that ebay, regardless of one's opinion of it, still offers some wonderful surprises. I appreciate Rob's input too. I'm amazed by his knowledge of the series.
