wz1f Valued Member United States 224 Posts	Posted 10/31/2011 8:24 pm Not sure what to call this one. Picture is not great as the coin is really dirty. I only took a picture of the face. The marks on this penny are higher than the rest of the face of the penny. They go from one side through the face of Lincoln and fade after coming out of his face. Is this some type of die break?. RollSeeker Valued Member United States 366 Posts	Posted 10/31/2011 9:00 pm I don't think it came like that from the mint. Die break is basically ruled out due to the 'line' not meeting the edge. Looks like it could be some loose solder, but I will wait to see more opinions. Report this Post to the Staff
Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 10/31/2011 10:24 pm I'm no expert but I think that copper will deteriorate from the inside out and the raised portions are evidence of something going on inside...or more likely something happened a long time ago. It is -- I suppose -- impossible to know for sure without destroying the coin, but the stuff that happens to copper is mind-boggling. Report this Post to the Staff
