I have decided to sell my entire coin collection of Canadian and US coins, except for my Canadian half dollars. What is the best way to sell? Things aren't going so well on the home front. Thought about selling each series as a whole, but they are all incomplete collections and some are very close to completion. I would like to be able to offer them here, I don't wanna play ebay's silly games with the fees. Any interest please inquire. Thanks.

Can you give us an idea of what your collection is like? What you should do will probably vary depending on how much it is worth. A few hundred to a few thousand dollars is one thing, a collection worth tens of thousands or more is another.

Without knowing any more information, all I can say is that selling each series as a whole usually brings poor returns on ebay. Incomplete sets get low balled by everybody. Collectors either don't want to purchase coins they already have to get ones they don't or they want the thrill of the hunt to put the whole set together themselves. It's also impossible to include good pics of every coin and bad pics equals terrible bids. I just saw a near complete buffalo collection including the key dates missing only 3 random semi-keys sell for $270 or something. The pics just showed the book and distant views of the pages. The guy could have pieced that thing out and gotten $1000 for it the condition I estimated it as. I was stupid enough to only bid $200, I'm kicking myself now, but the auction just screamed low ball to me I couldn't help myself.

That's a shame, if I were liquidating my collection (shudder), I would break it down as far as possible to maximize my return. Selling as a whole is usually not a good idea. I would offer it here. There are many 7070 collectors who would love to take a crack at it, and keep it in the "family".

I've gotten a few PM's and I think it would be easier if I just posted a list where I can be more specific. There really isn't nothing too valuable but yet too nice to rip out of the 2x2's and roll them up. Maybe I will sell some coins singley but some will be the whole group. I have to get ready for work so It'll be a lil bit before I compile my list.

I would sell it at a large coin show for the best bang for your buck. Many of the better shows attract many specialized dealers from all over the country. ebay's fees are ridiculous - especially if you were to break it up into individual auctions. The best "no cost" ways to sell in my opinion are Craigslist (riskiest), coin shows (safest) and possibly this website (as you have enough posts to sell).

I'm also waiting to see the list. This website might be your best bet actually.
I assume it's going to be a list of what sets you have plus maybe a few individual coins. For the sets make sure to include a grade range. If possible also include approx what prices you're looking for, or at least something like "80% of retail" or whatever.

Sorry you have to sell your collection. We are only stewards of the coins for a short time on Earth anyhow, so eventually we have to give them up one way or another.
Good luck in selling your collection and I hope you get maximum returns!
