From what I've found out about BD is that it usually goes into the coin and the best you can do is pick at it with a piece of metal until you get the green off/out of the coin. I use electrolysis on the hard stuff that is stuck to the coin but I think it might take some or all of the silvering off. The best way to use electrolysis is a little at a time. It usually takes a few times of 10-15 minutes each and sometimes after the first try the crusty stuff can easily be picked off the coin sometimes in large chunks like on my diocletian(these usually end up the best coins), then I take a dental pick and a jewelers loupe and press(not scratch) on the the stuff that is left and if its ready to come off the pick will crush it and it will just wipe off. If not soak it in what ever you choose to use(olive oil or water and dish soap) and do this all over again sometimes a few times. If you use electrolysis you have to coat the coin with paint, wax or something to cover the metal when you are done.
