I love these coins and am working on putting together as many as we can. That said, what is up with this? I have no where near the experience that others have here, is this the real thing?

This coin appears to be authentic but seriously polished.

IMO, I would not bid on this coin.

Gotta agree with Moe. Really a shame she would have been lovely if just left alone.

Moe, Thanks. I was absolutely not going to bid on this one. If it is authentic, it's just so sad for what happened to it.

I bought a nice seated half-dime from this seller. My coin was in XF condition and was not cleaned. I corresponded with the seller a bit too and he seemed like a nice guy. Obviously that doesn't guarantee anything about this particular coin, but my experience with him was a good one.

Actually, I just read the description and he was honest about the coin. He said it "obviously has been dipped" and that it was wiped/cleaned.

I agree the coin appears real, but polished and the pictures are dark which will hide any marks.

That thing sets all kinds of alarms off...what is up with area around the rims on the obverse?
Is it just heavily polishing that makes the surfaces look so wrong?
