It looks like the die was falling apart, but hard to figure out what caused the incuse damage, unless something also fell on the planchet before it was struck? Report this Post to the Staff

Gyrene7483 Pillar of the Community United States 1704 Posts	Posted 04/05/2013 10:53 pm Acquired for my Liberty Seated type set a PCGS AU-55 1872 Half Dime and a PCGS AU-55 1875-S 20 cent piece. The Half Dime completes the Half Dime portion of the set if I don't include the 1859 hollow stars obverse or the mint mark below bow reverse. I'll eventually get both sub types but, for now the Half Dimes are done. I've looked around the internet a little and a well struck 1859 hollow stars is one tough puppie to find as the stars aren't all well defined some on one side or the other are flat from die wear or weak die pressure. A mint mark below bow example will be easy enough I just have to find one I like as so far the ones I've found don't appeal to me. The 20 cent piece has just one obverse and one reverse type each so now I am half done with that denomination. Ed ANA LM-3175 Report this Post to the Staff
