Hey one_fine_dime......thanks I basically upgraded beacause of the wear on the head/hair, the center shield engraved lines the legs and the forward wing of the eagle on the back not really for the tone but having a brilliant version is a plus!     These pics will better show the difference. I dont want to spam the thread with pics of the same coin so I apologize for that! Its not perfect but still a nice coin. Edited by Titan7170

Thanks Titan7170; that helps, I can definitely discern the difference in wear now. While my personal leaning is more towards the crusty toned coin, I can appreciate the "freshly minted" brilliance of your upgrade. By the way, how does one prevent a coin like that from toning at all over 100 years?! It looks like it came out of a mint roll yesterday.

I have no idea? I would think people that have been in the coin business for a long time just protect their coins......I ask the same question myself but there are millions of clean beautiful natural coins out there graded and ungraded so there has to be a way of doing it. I was thinking of sending it in to get graded but I'm not sure. I think it might come back a 63 or 64....if its higher Id be surprised! And hopefully it hasn't been cleaned. But it has a luster to it when played with in the light the same as my silver eagles so I think its natural....but I'm not an expert!

Picked up this 1859 Indian as an XF details coin, really cheap, wanted to try Verdi-Care on it. Before:   After:   Looks better. Unfortunately the spot on the neck is still a slight pit, so it would probably not full grade at a TPG, but it's a decent XF40-XF45 at 1/4th the price of a full grade example. Note: Pics taken with flash. Color is pretty much the same as the first set of pictures (before), but the verdigris is gone.
