I noticed recently that someone posted a 1947 P Walking half dollar for sale on ebay. I am relatively new, but was not able to find an record of a 1947 P being minted in either the Red Book or a view other websites.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

First of all to the sight. Most all coinage made in Philadelphia had no mint mark. The reference to "P" would be a walker with no mint mark.

Approx 4 million 1947 halves minted in Phil. This was the last year of the series. Minted in Philly and Denver only. No S (San Francisco) that year. As stated above there is no mintmark on coins minted in Philadelphia.

It is fairly common for people to use a P for denoting coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint even though there was no mint mark for this mint until very recently. In the Red Book and all other numismatic publications the dates without a mint mark next to them are struck at Philadelphia.
